This is a birthday special post from yours truly. As I grow older (and I hope wiser), I am learning to let go of things that fill up space in my life that are not necessary. Hear me out. Have you ever taken some time to evaluate where you are in your life and one of the things you realize is you need to clean up- literally like cleaning your wardrobe? To put it into perspective, the same way you get rid of clothes you no longer need, is the same way sometimes in life, you need to clean up.
I have come to be more aware of the fact that over time, we spend so much time forming attachments to things, people, places, thoughts and emotions that our lives become overburdened with trivial things that really do not matter. Take for instance- Clothes. We find ourselves holding onto clothes we no longer wear/ need yet they are filling up our space in our closet. What for? Then there are emotions. Why hold onto anger/ pride/ ego that is ruining your chances of forming amazing relationships in life? What for?
What about careers? Holding onto jobs that just honestly tear you down/ don’t fulfil you in any way hence blocking your growth in other various ways. And don’t get me started over friends who just bring toxic vibes into your space, but you want to hold on, because you think those are friends. What for? All because we are scared to declutter our lives. We therefore become so familiar and hold onto these things for fear that they will not be replaced or will be gone from our lives if we let go.
Be unapologetic about taking time to look through your current circumstances and investigating what areas cause you to be unhappy and unfulfilled. They come in all shapes and sizes- from toxic or draining relationships to holding onto material things all around you.
My dear friends, start doing things that energize you and stay away from that (or those) that drain your energy unless you want to be in that space and thrive in it, which honestly doesn’t do you any good. With peace and good vibes by your side and surrounding and much needed space in your life, you begin to create amazing things in this life. Evaluate your life, become aware of the energy drainers, things and people in your life, put up some boundaries and protect your peace.
Let go of things that don’t serve you- be it thoughts, people, emotions or circumstances that takes up residency within you. This for me, must be one of the biggest lessons I wish someone taught me when I was younger. I look back and only realize that I have been carrying so much of what I don’t need. In the words of Charlene Belitz and Meg Lundstrom in The Power of Flow: Practical Ways to Transform Your Life with Meaningful Coincidence, “When you are unattached, you have inner freedom. You have no investment in a particular outcome, and so you do what is necessary in the moment. You explore every option and are receptive to all new information. You do all that you know to do, and then trust, because you have no attachment to either the result or how the result is produced.”
Protect your space, guard your energy and circle and surrounding. Enforce your boundaries. It’s your space. Invest in people who you know will feed you just as much goodness as you do them.Like someone said, “Avoid people who mind fuck you. Avoid people who intentionally & repeatedly do & say things that they know upset you. Avoid people who expect you to prioritize them, but they refuse to prioritize you. Avoid people who can’t & won’t apologize sincerely.”
Fill your surrounding with circumstances that provide you with a sense of joy, peace and fulfillment. Be with those that choose you and you too, be that person, people choose. When you are doing things, which bring you happiness and joy, that you will no longer attract toxic or negative situations. De cluttering will bring you a sense of satisfaction. You’re the boss of You, and what you allow into your life and consciousness is totally up to you.
